In February participants in our liver cancer support group were invited to a unique event that aimed to aid understandings of liver health, liver disease, and liver cancer through art.
The event was hosted by researchers from the University of Birmingham and the NIHR Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and involved an immersive art session lead by artist Dr Felicity Inkpen.
Patients were encouraged to use painting as a medium to express their journey and hopes, and their creations during the project will be exhibited at the Centrala Gallery in Birmingham in June 2024.
Patients found the experience a positive one, with some of their feedback including:
“I was amazed how my thoughts and science, art and liver cancer can awaken your senses. Great session”
“It was amazing how feelings and emotions could be expressed through art, making me realise how much my quality of life has improved since my transplant”
“I felt that the liver cancer art project enabled me to visually release my experience of liver disease which I found most cathartic”
